ICANN Fellowship Programme

Sydney, Seoul, Nairobi, Brussels, Cartagena, Silicon Valley, Singapore & beyond!

One World, One Internet, Everyone Connected in your language

I would like to thank you for all the efforts you have done prior to the meeting and during the event. Please find below my feedback report on the fellowship, benefits, and my plans.

It was the first time I attend a meeting related to ICANN, During the last summer I attend a summer school on Internet Governance where I started to get information about the ICANN. The most amazing thing about the ICANN is the democratic system used by the ICANN, this really made me look at things differently.

Regarding the fellowship program it was very well organized. The information I got before the meeting were very useful, and the morning briefing explained several things to me. I also appreciate the effort done to get all those great speakers to the fellowship, they were very useful.

The most important meeting I attended were related to IPv6, ccNSO, ALAC, public meeting, IGF meeting, and the meetings on Register & Registrar, I liked the discussions done at the At Large meetings and how it is organized the democracy in expressing yourself, although it took a lot of time but reached good results at the end. I personally think that this system may be applied to manage organizations.

Ofok NGO is currently a member of the At Large so attending the ICANN meeting was very useful for me and for my organization.

My plans in the coming weeks is to organize a workshop on ICANN to be presented by Baher Esmat, and publishing all the presentations I have on the Ofok Human Network (http://ohnet.ofokngo.org). We already started publishing all the press coverage done on the ICANN in MEA. This network has more than 5000 members.

I consider myself an ICANN ambassador mostly because of the great experience I had and knowing the power of the internet in solving a lot of problems we are facing in our region especially in education and health. The freedom and diversity of culture that the ICANN is doing in the Internet and with my experience in Human development I know how this can help in developing countries like the Middle East.

The slogan of "One World, One Internet, Everyone Connected in your language" will help a lot of people in our region to have access to the internet as the language was a huge barrier for using the internet. I would like to have the Arabic translation in future ICANN meetings because this would help attract more people to the ICANN. Most of the Arab population in interested in the internet but having the language barrier stops them.

I would promote the fellowship program among the people I know as well as the members of Ofok Human network.

Looking forward to meeting you in Sharm El Sheikh, please do not hesitate to tell me if you need anything.

Best Regards

Shaarawy Abd Elbaky
Ofok NGO Chairman
