ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is an organization that supports a multi-stakeholder model, bottom up consensus driven policy making environment that promotes the use of the system of unique identifiers that supports a single global stable interoperable internet. Fellowships are awarded by an independent selection committee based on a mix of criteria including applicant experience and references, geographic proximity to meeting, receipt of past fellowships, etc. Recipients are expected to actively participate in and contribute to ICANN processes and be a part of the next generation of ICANN leadership. The Alumni and networking group provides a mechanism for previous recipients to remain connected with ICANN and other recipients. It also provides a vehicle for alumni to mentor current Fellows. This group can foster discussion groups, provide links to information and mentoring and serve as a networking tool allowing members to remain connected to ICANN and each other.
